Bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus)

Bushbucks are forest-edge antelopes. They are closely related to the bongo, sitatunga, kudu and nyala. Bushbucks are one of the most widespread antelope in Sub-Saharan Africa, living in variety of habitats, including rain forests, montane forests, forest-savanna mosaics, and bush savannas, although the bushbuck is always found close to permanent water sources. While the bushbuck is mainly a browser, he will adapt his feeding habits to consume grass if the prefer diet is not available. Most of a bushbuck’s day is spent standing, browsing and watching for predators. Bushbucks are the only non-territorial and solitary African antelope. Neither the male bushbuck nor female bushbuck defends any part of their home range. Predators of the bushbuck include the lion, leopard, hyena, cheetah and even baboon, which will occasionally prey on young bushbuck.
